Greg Younger
269 428 1402 ext. 2003Greg Younger is currently the Athletic Director at Lakeshore High School, where he is entering his 16th year in the role after joining the school in the 2010-11 academic year. Over the course of his tenure, he has overseen the growth and success of Lakeshore’s athletic programs, helping to build a strong foundation of excellence for student-athletes and the broader school community. Prior to his time at Lakeshore, Younger served as the Athletic Director at Dowagiac High School from 2004 to 2010. His career in education and athletics also includes a significant period as an Assistant Football Coach and Sports Information Director at Hillsdale College from 1995 to 2001. In addition to his coaching and administrative work, Younger gained professional experience as the Human Resources Manager and Staff Accountant at Schaffer & Layher, LLC, where he worked from 2001 to 2004. During this period, he also contributed to Lakeshore High School’s football program as an Assistant Coach under Coach Denny Dock. A 1991 graduate of Dowagiac Union High School and a 1995 graduate of Hillsdale College, Younger’s career has been deeply rooted in both athletics and education. His diverse experience and passion for student-athlete development have made him a respected leader in the Lakeshore community. Younger lives in Stevensville with his Wife Jeanna. Both of his daughters Mahri (2017) and Meghan (2020) are Lakeshore Alums and both went on to play collegiate softball and graduate from Bethel University in Mishawaka, IN. -

Baseball (B-V) Head Coach
Dave Machemer
Coach Dave Machemer brings a lifetime of baseball experience and leadership to the Lakeshore program, with more than 47 years in professional baseball as a player, coach, manager, instructor, and scout. A graduate of Central Michigan University, where he was named Honorable Mention All-American in 1972, Coach Machemer went on to play 11 years of professional baseball, including time in the Major Leagues with the California Angels and Detroit Tigers. Remarkably, he became just the 47th player in MLB history to record a hit in his first big-league at bat on June 21, 1978. Following his playing career, Coach Machemer managed and coached in the professional ranks for 35 years, working with organizations such as the Milwaukee Brewers, Montreal Expos, Baltimore Orioles, and San Francisco Giants. Over that time, he amassed nearly 2,000 managerial victories, earning Manager of the Year honors in both the California League (1987) and Texas League (1988) while leading teams to multiple league and division championships across the U.S., Mexico, and Venezuela—including a Mexican League championship and a trip to the Caribbean World Series. Now in his third year leading Lakeshore’s varsity baseball team, Coach Machemer continues to share his knowledge and passion for the game with young athletes. He and his wife, Marcia, reside in Benton Harbor, and are proud parents of two Lakeshore graduates, Sarah and David. They enjoy spending time with their three grandchildren—Annabelle, Harrison, and Ramona. Outside of baseball, Coach Machemer enjoys music, playing guitar, golf, following the stock market, and working with youth in sports. -

Baseball (B-V) Assistant Coach
Jared Evans
Coach Jared Evans brings recent collegiate playing experience and a deep understanding of hitting mechanics to the Lakeshore baseball program. A Lakeshore alumnus, he played an important role on one of the school’s state championship teams before continuing his baseball career at the collegiate level. Coach Evans spent five years playing college baseball, earning NJCAA All-American honors in 2021, competing in the JUCO World Series in 2022, and advancing to the NCAA Division I Regional Tournament in 2023. He holds an Associate Degree from Muskegon Community College, a Bachelor’s in Psychology from Eastern Illinois University, and is currently pursuing his MBA from Davenport University. In addition to his work with Lakeshore, he serves as the Head Coach for the 84th Street Sliders travel baseball team, where he helps athletes refine their skills and prepare for the next level. Coach Evans lives in Stevensville with his fiancé, his mom, and their two dogs. Outside of baseball, he works as a bartender and enjoys golfing and staying active in the local sports community. -
Basketball (G-V) Head Coach
Aaron Toothman
Coach Aaron Toothman brings more than two decades of coaching experience and a lifelong passion for the game to the Lakeshore girls basketball program. A Granville High School (Ohio) graduate, he earned his Bachelor’s in Elementary Education and Master’s in Sports Administration from Western Michigan University, where he also played five years of Division I basketball and helped lead his team to the NCAA Tournament, defeating Clemson University in the first round. Throughout his career, Coach Toothman has coached every level of boys basketball, from middle school to varsity, across Lakeshore, Watervliet, Paw Paw, and Granville High Schools. His coaching journey has also included years of mentoring youth through his son’s travel basketball teams, helping young players develop both skills and confidence. A former All-State basketball player and accomplished athlete, Coach Toothman now focuses on fostering teamwork, leadership, and character within his players. He teaches Physical Education and Music & Motion at Roosevelt Elementary in Lakeshore and lives in Stevensville with his wife, also a Lakeshore educator. Their son, a 2025 Lakeshore graduate, now plays football at Central Michigan University. In his free time, Coach Toothman enjoys reading, fishing, and spending time with his family. -
Basketball (G-JV) Head Coach
Jeff Doroh
Coach Jeff Doroh brings enthusiasm, leadership, and a deep appreciation for teamwork and discipline to the Lakeshore girls basketball program. A graduate of Arizona State University’s W. P. Carey School of Business, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, Coach Doroh has been coaching at Lakeshore for seven years and continues to foster growth, confidence, and competitiveness among his players. A multi-sport athlete at Bangor High School, he competed in basketball, cross country, and track, and later played men’s lacrosse at Arizona State University in the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association. His diverse athletic background and lifelong involvement in sports shape his well-rounded coaching approach. Coach Doroh lives in Baroda with his wife and their six children, all proud Lancers or future Lancers. Professionally, he serves as the Director of Business Operations at United Container Company in St. Joseph. Outside of work and coaching, he enjoys watching his kids play sports, running marathons (including Boston, New York, Chicago, and Berlin), sports card collecting with his dad, and photography. -

JoAnn Schau
Coach Jo Schau brings over 25 years of coaching experience and a lifelong dedication to athletics, education, and youth development. A graduate of Saint Mary’s College with a Bachelor’s in Biology and the University of Notre Dame with a Master’s in Secondary Science Education, she blends her academic background with an energetic and student-centered coaching philosophy. A standout multi-sport athlete at St. Joseph High School, Coach Schau competed in basketball, volleyball, track, and soccer, later playing Division I soccer in college. Her coaching experience spans multiple schools and sports, including St. Petersburg Catholic High School, Transfiguration School, Buchanan High School, Niles High School, and Lakeshore Middle School. She has earned numerous accolades, including Sectional Championships, Conference Coach of the Year, District Titles, and All-State Academic Team honors for both her boys and girls soccer programs. At Lakeshore, Coach Schau leads 7th Grade Volleyball and 7th Grade Girls Basketball, while serving as an Assistant Coach for Varsity Girls Soccer. She is known for her commitment to building strong, confident, and well-rounded student-athletes. Coach Schau lives in Berrien Springs with her husband, Chad, and their son, who attends Lakeshore High School. She teaches 6th Grade Science at Lakeshore Middle School and stays active in the community through the Berrien County Youth Fair. In her free time, she enjoys farming, working out, fishing, hunting, attending Notre Dame sporting events, and spending quality time with her family. -

Sean Schroeder
Coach Sean Schroeder brings over 30 years of coaching experience and a proven record of success to the Lakeshore athletic program. A graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s in History and Economics and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Florida Atlantic University, he combines a strong academic background with decades of leadership on the court. A former varsity basketball and tennis player at Midland High School, Coach Schroeder has built championship-caliber programs at multiple schools, including American Heritage School (Delray, FL) and Pope John Paul II High School. His teams have earned three state runner-up finishes, and he has been named Class B Coach of the Year twice for his excellence in coaching and player development. Now leading Lakeshore’s varsity boys basketball and JV boys golf programs, Coach Schroeder emphasizes fundamentals, teamwork, and character both in competition and in life. He lives in Stevensville with his wife, Nikole, and works as a teacher. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, reading, exercising, and cooking. -

Daqwane Alexander
Coach Daqwane Alexander brings energy, experience, and a passion for mentoring young athletes to the Lakeshore basketball program. A graduate of Eau Claire High School, he earned an Associate Degree in Exercise Science from Lake Michigan College and a Bachelor’s in Construction Engineering from Southwestern Michigan College, blending his academic background with years of hands-on athletic and coaching experience. A three-sport high school athlete in football, basketball, and track, Coach Alexander went on to play overseas basketball in the Okinawa Basketball Tournament, where his team won a championship in 2015. His coaching résumé spans multiple levels and programs, including roles at Eau Claire, River Valley, Bangor, and Kuyper College, as well as with the YMCA and Breakthrough Basketball Camps. In 2012–13, he helped lead the Eau Claire Varsity Boys Basketball Team to a Conference Championship. Off the court, Coach Alexander works as a Special Education Paraprofessional at Roosevelt Elementary and is also an entrepreneur. Deeply community-minded, he mentors youth, teaches job and life skills to high school students, and even built a garden for the Catholic Community Center. He lives in Benton Harbor with his wife, Samantha, and their four children—Xavier, Sterling, Aria, and Junior. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball, golfing, fishing, riding bikes, snowmobiling, bonfires, and spending time with family and friends. -

Connor Roberts
Coach Connor Roberts is a dedicated educator and coach who brings energy, strategy, and a passion for developing student-athletes to the Lakeshore athletic program. A Lakeshore alumnus, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education from Grand Valley State University and a Master’s in Secondary Mathematics Education from Western Governors University. A three-sport athlete in high school—competing in football, basketball, and track (high jump)—Coach Roberts has continued to build his experience across multiple levels of competition. Before returning to Lakeshore, he coached at Allendale, where he led teams from the middle school through varsity levels, winning the 2020 Cornerstone Holiday Tournament Championship. Since rejoining his home program, he has guided Lakeshore’s 2024–2025 freshman basketball team to an undefeated season while also serving as an assistant varsity football coach. Certified by USA Basketball, NCAA Basketball, and in CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding, Coach Roberts brings both expertise and enthusiasm to his teams. He lives in Stevensville and teaches math, balancing his love for teaching with his commitment to coaching. In his free time, he enjoys golfing, boating, and spending time with family and friends. -

Brent Turner
Coach Brent Turner brings enthusiasm, leadership, and a competitive spirit to Lakeshore athletics through his work with both the freshman and middle school basketball programs. A graduate of Huntington University with a Bachelor’s in Education and a Master’s in Business Administration, he combines his background in teaching and athletics to help student-athletes grow in skill, character, and teamwork. A multi-sport athlete at Rising Sun High School (Indiana), Coach Turner played baseball, basketball, and golf, and went on to play collegiate baseball at Huntington University, where he set the school record for most appearances in a single season. His coaching experience includes serving as a basketball assistant and varsity pitching coach at Rising Sun High School. As both a player and coach, Coach Turner has been part of championship-level success—earning two sectional titles as a player, and leading teams to a sectional and regional championship with a Final Four appearance as a coach. Coach Turner and his wife, Alexa, live in Sodus with their two dogs, Marlin and Teeter. Outside of the classroom and the gym, he enjoys golfing, fishing, and helping develop young athletes through Little Lancers basketball. -
Basketball (B-8th-B) Head Coach
Desmond Young
Coach Desmond Young brings passion, energy, and a love for the game to the Lakeshore Middle School basketball program. A Benton Harbor native, he was a four-year high school basketball player, developing a strong foundation in teamwork, leadership, and competition that he now passes on to his players. Before joining Lakeshore, Coach Young coached at Benton Harbor Charter Middle School and has quickly made an impact through his commitment to player development and positive mentorship. He also holds an MHSAA coaching certification and contributes to the Lakeshore athletic community as a Basketball Trainer. Outside of coaching, Coach Young works at Silver Beach Pizza and enjoys gaming and staying connected to the game of basketball year-round. -
Basketball (B-7th-A) Head Coach
Derek Weaver
Coach Derek Weaver brings a decade of basketball and athletic coaching experience to the Lakeshore Middle School program. A Bridgman native and Aquinas College graduate, he played NAIA basketball and continued his athletic career professionally in both the International Basketball League (IBL) and American Basketball Association (ABA). Coach Weaver has coached multiple levels and sports within the Lakeshore community, including middle school football and basketball, girls varsity basketball at Lakeshore High School, and Lakeshore travel basketball. His focus on skill development, discipline, and teamwork helps student-athletes grow both on and off the court. Outside of coaching, Coach Weaver enjoys working on his lawn and remains actively involved in supporting local athletics. -
Cheer - Sideline & Competitive Head Coach
Morgan Callahan
Coach Morgan Callahan brings energy, expertise, and deep community roots to the Lakeshore cheer program. A graduate of Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration/Accounting and a Master’s in Organizational Leadership from Siena Heights University, she combines strong leadership skills with a lifelong passion for cheerleading. A former four-year varsity competitive and sideline cheerleader at St. Joseph High School, Coach Callahan went on to cheer at Grand Valley State University on both the football and basketball sidelines as part of the All-Girls Cheer Team. She has spent seven years coaching across all levels, including Lakeshore Rocket Football Cheer, Lake Michigan Catholic, and St. Joseph High School JV, and has also served as an MHSAA Competitive Cheer Judge for five years. Coach Callahan lives in St. Joseph with her husband, Joey, and together they love cheering on their two children as they compete in multiple Lakeshore sports. Outside of coaching, she serves as the Finance Director for the Berrien Community Foundation and continues to lead youth cheer through Lakeshore Rocket Football Cheer. In her free time, she enjoys ringing a cowbell at her kids’ games, relaxing by the pool, playing with her dogs, and exploring the trails in her Jeep up north. -

Cross Country Boys & Girls Head Coach / Boys Track Head Coach
Beau Deja
Coach Beau Deja has been a cornerstone of the Lakeshore running community for more than two decades, leading with passion, expertise, and a deep commitment to athlete development. A Lakeshore High School graduate and Western Michigan University alumnus, he competed in football and track before beginning his long coaching career at his alma mater. Since joining the Lakeshore coaching staff in 2003, Coach Deja has served as an assistant coach for men’s track and field (2003–2021) and assistant men’s cross country coach (2003–2010) before stepping into his current role as head coach of both the men’s track and cross country programs, as well as women’s cross country. A certified ACE personal trainer, CPR-certified coach, and MHSAA CAP Level 3 coach, he blends technical knowledge with motivational leadership to help student-athletes reach their full potential. Outside of school, Coach Deja works as a personal trainer at Southshore Health and Racquet Club and is a managing partner of Connected Soles, where he supports the local running community. He lives in St. Joseph and remains actively involved in area races and running events, mentoring athletes of all ages and fostering a lifelong love of fitness and competition. -

Danny Thompson
Coach Danny Thompson leads the Lakeshore varsity football program with over 15 years of coaching experience. A graduate of Olivet College with a Bachelor’s degree in History (Education), he was a multi-sport athlete in high school—competing in football and track—and went on to play collegiate football at Olivet. Before coming to Lakeshore, Coach Thompson gained extensive experience in both Florida and Michigan, serving as Offensive Line Coach and Offensive Coordinator at St. Cloud High School (FL) for five years and as Offensive Coordinator at Thornapple Kellogg High School for three. His background in offensive strategy, player development, and program leadership has helped him guide Lakeshore athletes to success on and off the field. Coach Thompson lives with his wife, Sarah, and their son, Lincoln. Outside of football, he enjoys history podcasts and visiting Civil War battlefields. -

Jake Bushu
Coach Jake Bushu is a proud Lakeshore alumnus who has returned to give back to the program that helped shape his own athletic journey. A graduate of Grand Valley State University, he was a multi-sport athlete in football and basketball during his high school years and now brings that same competitive spirit and teamwork to his coaching. Entering his sixth year on the Lakeshore football staff, Coach Bushu focuses on developing student-athletes both on and off the field through discipline, accountability, and a love for the game. Outside of coaching, he serves as an elementary teacher and is certified in CPR and First Aid. His dedication to education and athletics reflects his commitment to helping students grow into confident, capable young adults. -

Suze Miller
Coach Suze Miller brings enthusiasm, leadership, and a deep commitment to student growth to the Lakeshore football program. A proud Lakeshore alumna, she earned her Bachelor’s in Secondary English Education and Master’s in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University, along with additional graduate coursework from Andrews University. A former varsity track athlete, Coach Miller now channels her energy into mentoring student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom. She is an active and respected member of the Lakeshore community, leading several student organizations including Academic Challenge, B the Voice (Suicide Prevention), Knitting Club, and Young Republicans. Coach Miller has been honored with multiple awards recognizing her excellence and influence, including Bold Woman of Business 2025, the R. James Johnson Educator of the Year Award, and Lakeshore’s Good to Great Award. She lives in Stevensville with her husband, Derrick, and their two children, Henry (8th grade) and Adeline (5th grade). A high school English teacher at Lakeshore, she also volunteers with the Berrien County Youth Fair. In her free time, Coach Miller enjoys reading, baking, and creating Shutterfly books, and she continues to be a dedicated supporter of all things Lakeshore. -

Trace Schewe
Coach Trace Schewe is a proud Lakeshore alumnus who has been part of the Lancer football program for over a decade. A Wayne State University graduate, he was a multi-sport athlete at Lakeshore—competing in football, basketball, and track—and went on to play collegiate football at Wayne State, where he developed his strong foundation in leadership, discipline, and teamwork. Now in his 13th year coaching, Coach Schewe brings both experience and a deep understanding of the Lakeshore tradition to the varsity staff. His commitment to excellence, player development, and team culture continues to strengthen the Lancer program. He lives in Stevensville with his wife, Samantha (a 2009 Lakeshore graduate), and their three children. Outside of coaching, he works as a Software Engineer and enjoys supporting his family’s activities and the broader Lakeshore community. -

Danny Davison
Coach Danny Davison brings over a decade of coaching experience and a lifelong passion for the game to the Lakeshore football program. A graduate of Jacksboro High School in Texas, he competed in both football and wrestling, building the foundation for his coaching philosophy centered on teamwork, toughness, and character. Before joining Lakeshore, Coach Davison coached in the Mineral Wells, Texas Recreation League, where he developed young athletes and fostered a love for the game. Now in his 11th year of coaching and his 14th year involved in football, he continues to focus on developing student-athletes on and off the field. Coach Davison lives in Stevensville, Michigan, with his wife and seven children. Outside of football, he works as a Material Handler at the D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant and enjoys spending time with his family. -

Collin Churchill
Coach Collin Churchill brings energy, enthusiasm, and a team-first mindset to the Lakeshore Middle School athletic program. A St. Joseph High School graduate and Grand Valley State University alumnus, he was a three-sport athlete in football, baseball, and track, experiences that shaped his love for coaching and developing young athletes. Now in his third year at Lakeshore, Coach Churchill serves as Head Coach for 8th Grade Football and Assistant Coach for Middle School Track, where he emphasizes fundamentals, hard work, and sportsmanship. He teaches 8th grade history and lives in St. Joseph with his wife, Alli, and their son, Levi. In his free time, Coach Churchill enjoys spending time with family and watching sports. -

Ricky Rhodes
Coach Ricky Rhodes brings nearly a decade of experience and a strong commitment to leadership and youth development to the Lakeshore football program. A graduate of Walled Lake Central High School, he continued his education at Hope College, earning a Bachelor’s degree, and later at Grand Valley State University, where he received a Master’s in Education. A former multi-sport athlete, Coach Ricky competed in football and track & field in high school and went on to play collegiate football at Hope College. His experiences as both an athlete and educator shape his approach to coaching—focusing on teamwork, effort, and character on and off the field. He lives in Stevensville with his wife and their three children. In addition to teaching, he is an active youth ministry volunteer at Storyline Church. Outside of school and coaching, Coach Ricky enjoys outdoor adventuring and spending time with his family. -
Golf (G-V) Head Coach
Jill McNabnay
Coach Jill McNabnay brings a competitive spirit and a deep commitment to student-athletes both on and off the course. A graduate of Western Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and a Master’s in Biology from Michigan State University, she combines academic excellence with athletic experience. A former multi-sport athlete, Coach McNabnay competed in basketball and softball in high school and played collegiate softball, experiences that shaped her approach to teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. She has been part of multiple state championship teams as both a player and a coach and is a proud member of the Lakeshore High School Hall of Fame. In addition to leading the girls golf program, Coach McNabnay has served as an assistant coach for Lakeshore High School softball and teaches at Lakeshore High School. She lives in Stevensville with her dog and is active in her church as a council member. Outside of school and sports, she enjoys reading, exercising, and spending time outdoors. -
Golf (B-V) Head Coach
Paul Cornwell
Coach Paul Cornwell has led Lakeshore’s boys golf program for 15 years, combining his deep love of the game with a professional background that spans decades in the sport. A Class A PGA Professional and proud member of the PGA Quarter Century Club, Coach Cornwell brings both technical expertise and a passion for mentoring young golfers. A graduate of Western Michigan University and a former three-sport athlete at Bridgman High School, he has guided Lakeshore golf to consistent success, including a Girls Golf Regional Championship in 2016. His approach emphasizes sportsmanship, course management, and lifelong enjoyment of the game. Off the course, Coach Cornwell serves as the PGA Director of Golf Operations in Michigan City, IN and is deeply rooted in the Lakeshore community. He and his wife, Ruth, have been married for 33 years and are proud parents of two Lakeshore graduates—Kaitlin (’12) and Kari (’15). In his free time, he enjoys fishing, hunting, and, of course, golfing. -
Poms Head Coach
Melissa Vegter
Coach Melissa Vegter leads the Lakeshore Poms program with creativity, dedication, and Lancer pride. A Lakeshore graduate herself, she brings over a decade of coaching experience and a lifelong connection to the community. A graduate of Western Michigan University, Coach Vegter holds both a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education and a Master of Arts in Educational Technology. Before returning to Lakeshore, she coached sideline and competitive cheerleading at Coloma High School, where she developed her passion for mentoring young performers and building cohesive teams. Under her leadership, the Lakeshore Poms team earned NDA National Competition Bids in 2022 and 2023, a testament to her athletes’ hard work and her commitment to excellence. Coach Vegter lives in Stevensville with her husband, Charlie, and daughter, Lauren—all proud Lakeshore alumni. She teaches math at Lakeshore Middle School, volunteers with the Blossomtime Festival, and serves as Chairperson for Miss Spirit of Blossomtime. In her free time, she enjoys reading, sewing, watching NCAA football and basketball, and spending time with her family. -
Soccer (G-V) Head Coach
Brian Samuel
With nearly three decades of dedication to Lakeshore soccer, Coach Brian Samuel has built a tradition of excellence grounded in skill, sportsmanship, and player development. A proud Michigan State University graduate, Coach Samuel holds a U.S. Soccer “D” License along with Goalkeeper and First Aid/CPR certifications. Over his 27 years with the Lakeshore boys program and 17 years leading the girls, he has guided his teams to 12 district titles, 5 conference championships, and more than 500 career victories, ranking him 13th all-time in MHSAA boys soccer wins. Beyond his success on the field, Coach Samuel has been a driving force in youth soccer across Southwest Michigan—serving as Director of Coaching, Director of Player Development, and currently as Director of the Academy program for SWM Kickers Club. His leadership has helped more than 50 players continue their soccer careers at the collegiate level. Off the pitch, Coach Samuel is a science teacher at Lakeshore High School and an active community member through Lakeshore Christian Church and local outreach missions. He lives in Stevensville with his wife, Julie, and their two children. In his free time, he enjoys the outdoors, hunting, fishing, triathlons, and cheering on former Lancer players as they continue to chase their goals. -

Paul Carteaux
Coach Paul Carteaux has been a cornerstone of Lakeshore soccer for more than four decades, dedicating 45 years to coaching and shaping generations of student-athletes. A graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame, Coach Carteaux blends analytical precision with a deep passion for the game. A former collegiate soccer player at IU–Purdue Fort Wayne, he holds multiple coaching and instructional credentials, including USSF National D and E Licenses, United Soccer Coaches Goalkeeper Diplomas (Levels 1–3), and CPR/AED certification. His extensive involvement in local soccer includes work with the Lakeshore Youth Soccer League, AYSO, and Southwest Michigan Kickers. Over his career, Coach Carteaux has guided teams to remarkable success, earning 10 District Championships, 5 Regional Titles, 2 State Runners-Up finishes, and a 1990 State Championship. His coaching excellence has been recognized through numerous honors, including MHSAA Coach of the Year (1990), Public School Coach of the Year (1991), and induction into both the Lakeshore High School Coach’s Hall of Fame and the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Now retired from his professional career, Coach Carteaux continues to pour his energy into teaching, service, and mentorship. He and his wife, Lois, have been married for 46 years and have two adult children. Outside of soccer, he serves as a volunteer adjunct staff member with ReachGlobal Crisis Response, leads Bible studies, and enjoys fishing, building fishing rods, and woodworking. -

Daniel Sette
Coach Daniel Sette brings international experience, advanced training, and a lifelong passion for the game to the Lakeshore soccer program. Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, he holds multiple degrees, including a Bachelor’s in Marketing & Advertising from PUC-SP, a Bachelor’s in Physical Education from FMU-SP, and a Postgraduate degree in Soccer & Futsal from Estácio University. A former collegiate soccer player in Brazil with over six years of playing experience at the university level, Coach Sette has built a strong professional foundation in player development and performance analysis. His coaching background includes working with professional and youth programs such as Portuguesa-SP (Performance Analyst), Colégio Santa Maria (3rd–8th grade coach), and Olimpia Escola de Futebol (U10–U17 coach). Since joining Lakeshore, Coach Sette has made an immediate impact—contributing to the 2024–2025 Girls Varsity Soccer District Championship as an assistant under Coach Brian Samuel. He holds a USSF C-License and certifications in First Aid, CPR, scouting, and performance analysis, reflecting his commitment to holistic player growth. Coach Sette lives in St. Joseph with his wife and young daughter. He is a full-time coach dedicated to advancing Lakeshore soccer both on and off the field. Outside of soccer, he enjoys Jiu-Jitsu, hiking, and playing video games. -

Vitor Cabrera Batista
Coach Vitor Cabrera Batista brings international experience, advanced education, and a deep passion for player development to the Lakeshore soccer program. Originally from São Paulo, Brazil, he graduated from Objetivo High School and earned both a Teaching Degree and a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, followed by a Master’s in Movement Sciences. He also completed postgraduate studies in Physical Activity for Disease Prevention, Treatment, and Health Promotion. A lifelong athlete, Coach Batista has competed in soccer, indoor soccer, swimming, and table tennis, and now channels that diverse athletic background into helping student-athletes reach their full potential. He holds multiple professional certifications, including CIPT (Certified International Personal Trainer), NASM Certified Personal Trainer (USA), and CPR/AED certification through the American Heart Association. In addition to coaching, Coach Batista works as a personal trainer, helping others improve their health and athletic performance. He and his wife live in St. Joseph, where he remains active in team fundraisers and enjoys outdoor running and playing soccer in his free time. -

Denny Dock
Coach Denny Dock is one of Michigan’s most accomplished and respected high school coaches, with more than 50 years of coaching experience and an unmatched legacy of success in both football and softball. A graduate of Warsaw High School (Indiana), he went on to play football at Western Michigan University, where he also earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Coach Dock’s career spans multiple sports and schools, including Dowagiac, Hartford, and Lakeshore, where he has served as a teacher, athletic director, and coach. Since taking over Lakeshore’s varsity softball program in 1990, he has led the Lancers to 8 state championships, 2 state runner-up finishes, and 1 Final Four appearance. With over 1,320 career softball victories, Coach Dock is the all-time state leader in wins and ranks 8th nationally. His football career is equally impressive—he guided Hartford, Dowagiac, and Lakeshore to their first-ever playoff appearances and never recorded a losing season as a head football coach. His excellence has earned him induction into both the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association and the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association Halls of Fame. Coach Dock lives in Stevensville with his wife, Sue, and together they enjoy traveling, attending NASCAR races, and cheering on their five grandsons in their own athletic pursuits. A lifelong educator and mentor, he also contributed 20 years to Lakeshore’s Science Olympiad program and has officiated basketball for three decades. In his spare time, he enjoys building and flying model airplanes and competing at the national level. -

Mary Fisher
Coach Mary Fisher brings over a decade of coaching experience and a lifelong love for the game to the Lakeshore softball program. A Lakeshore High School graduate, she continued her education at Lake Michigan College and Ferris State University, where she developed both her athletic and academic foundations. A former varsity softball and volleyball player, Coach Fisher achieved notable success as an athlete—earning All-District and All-Regional honors while helping her teams capture four district titles and two regional championships. She has since dedicated her time to developing young athletes through the Lakeshore Youth Softball and Baseball Association (LYBSA), Lakeshore Youth Volleyball Program, and Lakeshore Pirates Softball. In addition to her CPR, First Aid, and EMT training, Coach Fisher brings leadership and enthusiasm to every level she coaches. She also serves as a board member for LYBSA, helping shape the future of youth sports in the Lakeshore community. Coach Fisher lives in St. Joseph with her husband, Jason, and their three children—Leah, Hudson, and Renner. Outside of coaching, she loves spending time with her family, soaking up sunshine, boating, and relaxing at the beach. -

Jodi Rabbers
Coach Jodi Rabbers brings over 20 years of coaching and athletic experience to Lakeshore, along with an unmatched passion for fitness and competition. A Lakeshore High School graduate, she went on to earn her Bachelor’s in Physical Education and Health from Texas Woman’s University and a Master’s in Exercise Science from Western Michigan University. A former multi-sport athlete in basketball, volleyball, softball, and track, Coach Rabbers was part of the 1979 AIAW National Championship Softball Team at Texas Woman’s University. Her coaching career includes experience across several schools and levels, including Lakeshore, Lake Michigan Catholic, Laredo Community College (volleyball), Eastern Hills High School (softball), and Boles Junior High (basketball). Beyond the diamond, Coach Rabbers is a certified CPR/First Aid/Oxygen Instructor, a personal trainer, and an accomplished endurance athlete—having completed 54 marathons, including one in every U.S. state and one internationally. She divides her time between Arlington, Texas, and Stevensville, Michigan, where she coaches during the season. When she’s not training or teaching, she enjoys traveling, camping, pet sitting, and photography. -

John Girton
Coach John Girton leads Lakeshore’s strength and conditioning program with over two decades of experience developing elite athletes across high school, collegiate, and professional levels. A graduate of the University of North Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and Northern Michigan University with a Master of Science in Exercise Science, Coach Girton brings a world-class background in athletic performance to the Lancers. A multi-sport athlete at Hudson High School (FL) who lettered in football, baseball, soccer, and weightlifting, Coach Girton went on to play football at Wingate University (NC). His extensive professional experience includes roles with the Seattle Mariners (High Performance Minor League Coordinator), Northern Michigan University, Jacksonville University, Traverse City Central High School, and internships with the University of Florida, Jacksonville Jaguars, and University of North Florida. He holds numerous elite certifications, including Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Registered Strength & Conditioning Coach with Emeritus distinction (RSCC*E), High School Strength Coach Certified (HSSCC), USA Weightlifting Level 1, Certified Speed & Agility Coach (CSAC), and Velocity-Based Training (VBT). He also served as a Certified Athletic Trainer (2003–2021). Coach Girton’s programs have earned national recognition, including the NSCA Strength of America Award (2013–2015, 2016–2018, 2024–2026) and the NHSSCA Program of Excellence (2024–2026). He lives in Bridgman with his wife, Devon, and their two sons, John and James. In addition to serving on the Michigan State Advisory Board for the National High School Strength Coaches Association (NHSSCA), he enjoys spending time with his family, studying athletic performance, and cheering for the Florida Gators—Go Gators! -

Zack Smith
Coach Zack Smith brings passion, energy, and a deep understanding of the game to the Lakeshore girls tennis program. A graduate of Holt High School, where he played #1 singles all four years, and Michigan State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree, Coach Smith has been immersed in the sport for much of his life. Before taking over the varsity program, he coached with the Lakeshore Middle School Tennis Club and served as a summer tennis instructor for Delhi Parks & Recreation, helping young players develop a love for the game. In 2025, he was recognized as the Regional Coach of the Year by the Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association (MHSTeCA) for his leadership and impact on the Lakeshore tennis program. Coach Smith also teaches 8th grade English Language Arts at Lakeshore Middle School, where he is known for his enthusiasm, connection with students, and commitment to growth. Outside of the classroom and tennis court, he enjoys reading, traveling, running, biking, and attending live music concerts. -

Adam Albertin
Coach Adam Albertin has quickly built a tradition of excellence within Lakeshore’s boys tennis program, leading the team to three consecutive state finals appearances (2022, 2023, 2024) in just four years as head coach. A graduate of Valparaiso University with degrees in Secondary Education and Biology, he blends academic excellence with a passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the court. A former multi-sport athlete at East Noble High School, Coach Albertin competed in tennis, basketball, baseball, and track, later continuing in college tennis and competitive ultimate. His diverse athletic background informs a coaching philosophy focused on discipline, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Outside of tennis, Coach Albertin teaches high school science at Lakeshore, coaches Science Olympiad, JV girls tennis, and middle school boys basketball. He lives in Stevensville with his wife, Rachel, and their two dogs. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, disc golf, reading, and homebrewing -

Stacey Hengy
Coach Stacey Hengy leads the Lakeshore girls track and field program with energy, experience, and a proven record of success. A graduate of Fairview High School and Saginaw Valley State University, she competed in track and basketball throughout high school and was a member of the 1995 SVSU outdoor track team that captured the GLIAC Championship. Before joining Lakeshore, Coach Hengy built a strong coaching foundation at Fairview Area Schools, serving as head coach for middle school girls track and 8th grade girls basketball, and as an assistant coach for both varsity programs. Her Fairview teams won seven North Star League titles in 11 years. After moving to Lakeshore, she volunteered for several years before becoming an assistant and later the head girls track coach in 2020. Under her leadership, Lakeshore has seen tremendous success, including three consecutive MITCA Team State Meet appearances, a 2024 Regional Championship, and a 4th place finish at the 2025 State Finals. Her teams have consistently qualified athletes for the state finals, including producing one individual state champion, one runner-up, and eight new school records in 2025. She was also named the 2024 MITCA Regional Coach of the Year. Coach Hengy lives in Stevensville with her husband, Erick, and enjoys spending time with their two grown children and three grandchildren. She works in Food Service at Lakeshore High School and loves camping, traveling, attending concerts (especially Def Leppard), and going to Supercross, Motocross, and amusement parks with her sister. -

Debbie Watson
Coach Debbie Watson brings over 15 years of coaching and playing experience to the Lakeshore volleyball program, along with a lifelong passion for teaching, mentoring, and developing young athletes. A graduate of Concordia University Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Secondary Education, and a Master of Arts in Teaching and Curriculum from Michigan State University, she blends strong academic and athletic backgrounds to inspire excellence on and off the court. A former four-year collegiate volleyball player at Concordia University Chicago, Coach Watson has coached at multiple levels, including Harvard High School (IL), Mattawan High School, and Lakeshore High School, where she served as JV Head Coach from 2021 to 2024 before taking over the varsity program. Known for her supportive coaching style and focus on fundamentals, teamwork, and character, she continues to build a competitive and cohesive program for Lakeshore volleyball. Coach Watson lives in Stevensville with her husband, Chris, and their daughter, Paige, who attends Roosevelt Elementary. She teaches 6th-grade math at Lakeshore Middle School and enjoys spending time with her family, reading, running, and traveling. -

Elias Ortega
Coach Elias Ortega brings a diverse athletic background and a passion for mentoring young people to the Lakeshore volleyball program. Originally from Texas, he earned his Bachelor’s in Theology from Southwestern Adventist University and holds dual Master’s degrees in Divinity and Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Andrews University. A lifelong athlete, Coach Ortega competed in varsity tennis, track, cross country, and basketball in high school and went on to play soccer at the university level, while also remaining active in recreational volleyball, futsal, hockey, and floorball. His coaching experience includes work with the Sunset Lake Basketball Program and as an assistant volleyball coach at Andrews University. He is CPR, First Aid, and MHSAA certified, and has helped teams achieve success in multiple sports, including a district tennis championship and recreational titles in soccer, futsal, volleyball, and floorball. Outside of coaching, Coach Ortega serves as a counselor, where he integrates his passion for mental health and personal growth into his leadership on and off the court. He volunteers with the Food Bank, the Humane Society, and the Michiana Boardgamery community group, and enjoys mentoring others, astronomy, science, anime, board games, and all forms of physical activity. -

Avery Burnette
Coach Avery Burnette is in her first year leading the Lakeshore freshman volleyball team, bringing enthusiasm, energy, and a passion for helping young athletes develop their skills and confidence. A graduate of Central Michigan University with a degree in English Education and Biology, she combines strong communication and analytical skills with a deep love for the game. A former high school volleyball player and recipient of the Players’ Choice Award, Coach Burnette has already led her team to an impressive start—earning first-place finishes in two tournaments during her inaugural season. Her coaching emphasizes teamwork, growth, and a positive competitive spirit. Coach Burnette lives in St. Joseph with her Fiance, robbie, and teaches high school English and middle school science. Outside of school and coaching, she enjoys reading, running, and crafting. -

Angela Webb
Coach Angela Webb brings a decade of coaching experience and a lifelong passion for athletics and youth development to the Lakeshore volleyball program. A graduate of Concordia University (Seward, Nebraska) with a Bachelor of Science in Education, she has a strong background in both teaching and coaching across multiple sports and age levels. A former multi-sport athlete at St. Paul High School (Concordia, Missouri), Coach Webb competed in volleyball, basketball, and track, and continued her athletic career in college softball and soccer. She has coached a wide range of programs across the country, including volleyball, basketball, soccer, and track at schools in Nebraska, Nevada, and Michigan. In addition to leading 8th Grade Girls Volleyball at Lakeshore, Coach Webb is a kindergarten teacher at Christ Lutheran School in Stevensville, where she also supervises the nursery program and sings in the Contemporary Choir. Coach Webb lives in St. Joseph with her husband and is a proud mother of four children, including one who is married and recently welcomed a baby daughter. Outside of school and coaching, she enjoys reading, gardening, spending time outdoors, and cheering on the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions. -

Ryan Quinn
Coach Ryan Quinn brings a decade of wrestling leadership and a strong record of success to the Lakeshore program. A graduate of Central Michigan University with a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences and Chemistry, and holder of a Master’s in Teaching and Educational Administration from Bethel University, Coach Quinn combines academic excellence with a deep commitment to athletic and personal growth. A former multi-sport athlete in football, wrestling, and track—and a collegiate wrestler (CMU) himself—Coach Quinn has coached at multiple levels, including Montabella High School, Niles High School, Ancilla College, Oak Hills High School, and now Lakeshore High School. Under his leadership, teams and athletes have achieved impressive success: producing 14 state qualifiers, 12 state placers, and 5 state champions, along with four conference titles, three district championships, two regional championships, and Elite 8 and Final Four team appearances. At the college level, he also coached a national qualifier. Off the mat, Coach Quinn teaches chemistry at Lakeshore High School and lives with his wife, Marissa, and their three children—Kayleigh, Kiley, and Crosby. He is known for fostering a culture of hard work, discipline, and integrity both in the classroom and in competition. -

Sam Hanau
Coach Sam Hanau brings a decade of wrestling experience and a strong competitive background to the Lakeshore wrestling program. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, he was a standout collegiate wrestler and earned recognition as a 2016 NCAA All-American. Since 2013, Coach Hanau has been an integral part of the Michigan West Wrestling Club, where he continues to train and mentor athletes at all levels. In addition to leading Lakeshore’s middle school wrestling team, he also serves as the Director of High School Development for Michigan USA Wrestling (2021–2025), helping shape the future of the sport across the state. Coach Hanau lives in Stevensville with his wife, Jade, and works professionally as a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones. Outside of wrestling, he enjoys hunting, snowboarding, and boating. -

Matt Swab
Coach Matt Swab brings over a decade of coaching experience and a lifelong dedication to wrestling and mentorship to the Lakeshore wrestling program. A Mason High School graduate and Olivet College alumnus with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice, he was a multi-sport athlete competing in both football and wrestling, earning MHSAA All-State honors in wrestling in 2005. Before joining Lakeshore, Coach Swab began his coaching journey with the Eaton Rapids Youth Wrestling Club, developing young athletes and helping instill a love for the sport. As Lakeshore’s Head Assistant Coach, he focuses on technique, mental toughness, and personal growth—helping student-athletes succeed on the mat and in life. Outside of coaching, Coach Swab is the Agency Owner of The Swab Agency – Farm Bureau Insurance, where he leads with the same integrity and commitment that define his coaching. He is also an active community member, serving on the Lakeshore Excellence Foundation (LEF) Board, the Well of GRACE Ministries Board, and as a Greeter at The Chapel, EFC. Coach Swab lives locally with his wife and their three children. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family, fishing, hiking, fitness, ice cream, and serving the community he loves.
