She continued her career at Florida State University, and she still holds several blocking records there. I love the fact that she is currently sharing her knowledge, experience and love of the game with the Lakeshore Volleyball program!” Zinkil, also was named all region in tennis at one doubles. After high school, Zinkil moved on to Florida State University where she started for four seasons and still ranks 3rd in FSU history for matches started with 128. She amassed over 1,110 kills and still is 5th all time for career kills in NCAA tournament matches at FSU with 73. Dave, congrats on your well-deserved HOF honor.” Coach Gregg Buschlen had this to say about David as a track athlete, “David was an amazing teammate ,who was a wonderful athlete. She played ONE JV game ……. The next day we had her on the Varsity and she was our standout shortstop for four years! During that time we won four straight Districts, three Regionals, one State Runner-Up and back to back State Championships in ’97 and ’98. Jill epitomized dedication, determination, hard work and grit - - making the most of her skills! She was the perfect example of come early in a clean uniform, leave late in a dirty one! An arm injury in her senior year did not stop her……. That year, she never threw the ball in practice, in warm-ups or in pre-game drills. She only threw the ball when it was hit to her in a game! We added a bucket ball drill just for Jill…. Hit her buckets full of ground balls which she fielded and then just put in the bucket! Even through this painful and challenging year, Jill was our unquestioned leader! She filled all of our mailboxes with motivational signs and pictures, encouraged everyone and set an example of toughness playing through a very painful injury. And, by the way, Jill was the “student athlete poster child”, being Valedictorian of her class while playing softball at its highest level! She earned a scholarship to play softball at Western Michigan University. Jill is a great teacher….. and she has coached with us a couple times throughout her career. I’m so proud and fortunate to have been her high school coach!” Basketball Coach Jim Maier had this to say about Jill, “Jill McNabnay gave 100% every practice and every game. She led by example and her quiet encouragement was respected by her teammates and coaches. Jill embodies what it means to be a Lancer.” Jill was named the 1999 Lakeshore female athlete of the year, WSJM athlete of the week and was the Valedictorian of the class of 1999.
