2026 Lakeshore Athletics Hall of Fame Inductees [STEVENSVILLE, MI, October 5, 2026] Lakeshore High School is proud to induct four former Lancer Athletes into the Lakeshore Athletics Hall of Fame at halftime of the football game on Friday October, 9 2026. There will be a reception/open house for the honorees in the High School LEF Learning Center (formerly the LGI) from 5:30-6:15pm. Summer (Slater) Chellman, 1993 graduate, was the pioneer of dominant softball pitching under Coach Denny Dock at Lakeshore. She compiled a career record of 62 (3rd in Lakeshore history)-10. Slater struck out 476 (6th in Lakeshore history) hitters in 451 ⅓ (4th in Lakeshore history) innings pitched. She boasted a 1.42 (9th in Lakeshore history) career ERA. She tossed a pair of no-hitters in 1993. Slater pitched both games of the 1991 districts to help the Lancers capture the district championship. She was a 3x All Lakeland Conference Pitcher and All District and All Region in 1993. Coach Denny Dock had this to say about Summer, "Summer was truly a trailblazer for Lakeshore softball. She was a foundational part of the teams that began the complete turnaround of our program, setting the standard by developing into one of our best all-time pitchers and holding opponents to low run totals. She was the first in a long line of dominant pitchers who built that legacy for us. I’ll never forget walking into a dark gymnasium early one morning and hearing a softball repeatedly hitting the wall—it was Summer in there working on her pitching. Right then and there, I realized that if she was going to be our pitcher, I needed to set my alarm clock earlier! With that kind of work ethic, it was no surprise at all that she became an absolute legend on the mound. It’s also extra special for me to look back on having had the privilege of coaching her daughter Anna in softball and her son Jake in football—and those apples certainly didn't fall far from the tree. Even today, Summer continues to support our program through her fundraising efforts, and I couldn't be more grateful for her lifelong commitment to Lakeshore." Slater earned 2 letters in basketball for the Lancers. She was a member of the 1991 District Championship Team. Coach Jim Miaer had this to say about Summer, “Summer played basketball for 4 years, with 2 being on the varsity. Her practice habits were infectious. Her intensity during games was an example for the entire team. Summer's leadership by example was appreciated by the coaches and respected by her teammates.” Steve Hicks, 2004 graduate, was one of the most versatile athletes on the field in Lakeshore football history. Whether it was taking a handoff the distance, catching pass after pass from Shaine Tierney, or returning punts or kickoffs for touchdowns, Hicks was a threat to find the endzone every time he touched the ball. He set and still holds the single season school record with 28 touchdowns and 168 total points in 2003. He ranks second in school history with 39 touchdowns and 234 total points in his Lancers gridiron career. Hicks totaled over 2,300 all purpose yards during his senior season. Hicks sent the Lancers to their second ever semifinal with an 84 yard touchdown run with under two minutes to play to end Charlotte’s chances of a comeback. He shined bright when the lights were bright in the regional final win over Charlotte, he racked up 162 yards rushing, 53 yards receiving and 3 touchdowns. Coach Dock had this to say about Steve, "Steve was such a dynamic weapon for us because of his complete skill set. He could catch the football just as well as he could run it, and when we needed to wear teams down, he could lower his shoulder and run for power—just like he did in our playoff game against Charlotte to help lead us to victory. I’ll always remember being behind against Niles when Shane Tierney hit Steve on a long touchdown pass right up the middle. That single play completely flipped the momentum, and Steve went on to have a heck of a game. He was the kind of player who could beat you in every way possible." Hicks also was a three year letter winner on the basketball team and a key member of the 2004 district championship and regional semifinalist team. Steve Hicks lettered for 4 years on the Lancer track team primarily running the 100 meter dash and the 4x100 relay. He holds the fourth fastest time in school history in the 100 meter dash at 11.1 seconds. He ran the lead leg of the 4x100 meter relay his final 3 years of high school with the relay qualifying for state each year. He was a member of the 2001 MITCA State Championship team, 2001 MHSAA State Runner-Up Team, 2004 MITCA State 3rd place team and 2004 MHSAA State third place team. Lauren (Clem) Olshtein, 2014 Graduate, won 12 total letters as a Lancer athlete. No one has been better in goal for the Lancers than Clem. She had over 40 shutouts in her career. Clem was a 4 time all district and 4 time all regional goalie for the Lancers. She was third team all state in 2011, second team all state in 2012 and first team all state in 2013 and 2014. She led the Lancers to district titles in each of her four years in goal. Clem tallied an incredible 64-13-5 in her career. Coach Samuel had this to say about Clem, “Team culture and an unmatched work ethic define Lauren Clem as the ultimate athlete. From the moment Lauren arrived as a freshman, alongside her sister MacKenzie, they established the standard for what Lakeshore soccer would become. They committed to outworking every opponent, being the fittest team on the field, and loving and supporting each other as teammates. For four years, Lauren was a force in goal. She anchored the Lady Lancers to an outstanding 64-13-5 career record and earned First Team All-State honors. She was truly a once-in-a-lifetime player, and I had the privilege of coaching, mentoring, and developing a lifelong friendship with her.” Clem was also a 4 year letter winner on the volleyball team. She was named All SMAC West honorable mention in 2013 as a middle. Coach Lisa Gathright had this to say about Lauren, “Lauren was a natural leader. She commanded respect from her teammates and opponents on and off the court. Her intensity was only equaled by her passion for the game and her love for her teammates. She was a joy to coach in every way.” Finally, Clem was a 4 year letter winner on the basketball team. She made the game winning free throw in the district championship game Benton Harbor in 2013 to propel the Lancers to a regional championship game appearance. She ranks fifth in Lakeshore history with 605 rebounds and second with 83 blocked shots. After high school Clem continued her athletic and academic career at Northwestern University where she was a standout goalie. She was Academic All Big-Ten, 2x Scholar All-American, 2017 Big Ten Medal of Honor Finalist, 2016 All Big Ten First Team, 2016 Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year, All-American and 2017 Mac Hermann Trophy Watch list. She tallied 49 shutouts, was 1st in the NCAA in Goals Against Average at 0.28 in 2016 and 1st in save percentage at 0.934 in 2016. She was the first Wildcat soccer player to be awarded as an NSCAA All American in 2016, started 89 consecutive games and is 2nd in career saves with 358. After graduating she played professionally for 1K Uppsala in Sweden and AFC Wimbledon in London. Haley Thibeault, 2014 Graduate, earned a total of seven letters for Lakeshore. Thibeault is one of the most decorated softball players in Lakeshore history. She was a 4x First Team All SMAC honoree, 4x All District, 4x All Region and 4x All State. One of her career defining moments on the softball field was hitting a walk off home run in the state semifinal vs. Livonia Ladywood in 2011. She pitched every game in the 2014 state championship run. She led the team in batting average, home runs, doubles, RBIs, runs scored, walks, all four years. Thibeault is the career record holder in at-bats (527), doubles (71), hits (232), home runs (35), and RBI’s (169). She capped off her Lakeshore career as the runner up to Miss Softball in 2014. Coach Denny Dock had this to say about Haley, "Haley was the complete package as an athlete and a competitor. To earn 1st Team All-State honors at three completely different positions—Designated Player, second base, and pitcher—tells you everything you need to know about her versatility and natural talent. But beyond her skill, her work ethic was unmatched; she was always the first one to arrive at practice and the last one to leave. I'll never forget her game-winning walk-off home run in the 8th inning of the MHSAA State Semifinal against Livonia Ladywood to send us to the State Finals. Moments like that define a program, and Haley was a player who always rose to the biggest occasions." Thibeault also earned three letters in volleyball. She had a career high in kills (19) in a win over Niles in 2013 and was one of the team leaders in digs and kills both her junior and senior seasons. Coach Lisa Gathright had this to say about Haley, “Haley was a fierce competitor. Her power and athleticism were off the charts and intimidating. And yet her teammates knew her as caring and selfless and the ultimate team player. I thoroughly enjoyed coaching her.” After high school she moved on to Western Michigan where she played softball through her sophomore season before suffering a career ending injury. ###
