For Immediate Release Stevensville, MI December 3, 2025 Lakeshore High School announces that Danny Thompson has stepped down as Varsity Football Coach after five years leading the Lakeshore Lancers. Thompson will continue serving the school as Dean of Students, a role in which he has been a respected and valued leader. During his five-year tenure as head coach, Thompson compiled a 22–28 overall record and guided the Lancers to postseason qualification in three of those seasons. However, his impact extended far beyond wins and losses. Thompson launched the Manager Program, providing students new opportunities to take on leadership roles, support the team behind the scenes, and develop skills that reach beyond the football field. Thompson also led several school-wide initiatives that strengthened community bonds and elevated school spirit. Events such as Program Day and themed games including Salute to Service, Educators Day, Local First Responders Day, and Special Friends Day that brought together students and families from the Rocket, Middle School and High School programs. These initiatives helped unite the broader Lakeshore community. Coach Thompson had this to say. “I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the Lakeshore football program and to work with so many great student athletes, coaches, and families. Coaching at Lakeshore has been a dream come true for me. At this time, I believe the best step for the program is for the focus to return fully to our kids and their future. I will continue to support Lakeshore students always and help ensure a smooth transition for the next Head Coach. It has been an honor to serve this program. It’s About US”. “We appreciate Coach Thompson’s dedication and the commitment he has shown to our student-athletes,” said Athletic Director Greg Younger. “He led our program with integrity, pride, and a genuine care for our community. We are grateful for his contributions to Lancer Football.” The search for a new varsity football coach will begin immediately.
