8th-ranked Thornapple Kellogg and 5th-ranked Lakeshore both entered the final dual of the Lakeshore Quad 2-0, and the Trojans earned some crucial matches to make the final battle of the day an instant classic as the winning team would come down to the final match. After Thornapple Kellogg pushed their lead to 29-24, the Lancers knew they needed the final two matches to remain unbeaten. Tafara Rukunda (171) earned the major decision putting it all on Matt Vaughn at 189. Vaughn had the Lancers on the edge of their seats as he led the match 5-0 after two rounds, and he sealed the victory as the final seconds faded away giving Lakeshore a thrilling 31-29 win.

The Lancers are now 6-0 verse the OK-Conference this season defeating three ranked teams in two consecutive Saturday quads, but the Trojans made sure Lakeshore earned their eighth victory.

The dual began at 215 as RJ Veldman earned a 6-0 start after the Trojans void. Thornapple Kellogg tied it with a Carter West pin fall at 285. Taylor Lucas (103) pushed the Lancers out front 12-6, but TK came right back with their own Jack Wright pin at 112 to tie it 12-12. The Trojans took their first lead after a Ashton Corson decision at 119, but Lakeshore’s Aaron Lucio’s 1-0 decision made it 15-15.

The Trojans and Lancers traded decisions at 130 and 135 after Kyron Zoet beat Kyle Stampfly, and Lakeshore’s Kent Heppler put the crowd on their feet with a 5-4 hard fought victory. TK took the lead again when Jackson Curtis major decisioned Austin Dunn at 140, but Lakeshore came right back when Micah Hanau made quick work of Jackson LaJoye in 12 seconds for the 24-22 lead.

James Harris and Austin Chivis put on a classic match at 152. In a back and forth battle, James Harris led late before Chivis scored two points in the closing seconds. Harris fought back to deadlock it after three rounds at 8-8, but Chivis earned the sudden death victory 10-8 giving the Trojans their final lead of the afternoon at 25-24. TK pushed it to 29-24 after Matthew Middleton’s major decision at 160 setting the showdown for the final two matches.

Lakeshore (8-0) finishes 3-0 in the quad while Thornapple Kellogg falls to 2-1. Byron Center roared back against Allendale to improve to 1-2 while the Falcons finished 0-3. Byron Center’s Blake Ottow earned his 100th victory Saturday afternoon.
