The Lakeshore Lancers welcomed one of Southwest Michigan’s premier girl’s basketball programs to Lancer Gym Tuesday night when Division 3 #3 Brandywine visited Stevensville. Under Coach Josh Hood, the Bobcats have developed an identity of constant defensive pressure that tires its opponents, three-point shooting, and fresh legs. For three quarters, Lakeshore stayed close with the Bobcats overcoming the pressure defense to trail 38-45 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Then, the Bobcats rolled 24 points in the fourth quarter while holding the Lancers to 7 to pull away for the 69-45 victory.
All eight Bobcat players scored at least three points for Brandywine, with Zakiyyah Abdullah netting 23 points. Brandywine hit on 10 three-pointers, including four in the fourth quarter. The Bobcats defense forced many quick shots and turnovers as Brandywine applied pressure on every Lancer offensive series.
Lakeshore was led by Morgan Tillman’s 22 points. Other Lancers that scored include Hollee Hercik (7 pts), Sara Moncrief (5 pts), and Emily Waning (5 pts). After trailing 24-16 after the first quarter, Lakeshore used defensive stops to pull within 33-30 at halftime.
Lakeshore girl’s basketball will be back in action tomorrow night against the Battle Creek Lakeview Spartans at Lakeview High School.
