The Lakeshore boy’s basketball team swept the St. Joe Bears on the season after their 58-40 victory Friday night, but not after coming back from a 16-9 first quarter deficit in the Bear Den. Using a strong defensive stance in the second quarter, Lakeshore turned the early deficit into a 29-26 halftime lead. The Lancers would cruise from there with a decisive 17-3 third quarter performance.

St. Joe’s Ben Newland led all scorers with 15 points, but he was the only Bear to score double figures. St. Joe, after scoring 26 first half points, was outscored 29-14 in the second half, with 11 points in the 4th quarter cutting the deficit to as low as 13 points. Lakeshore’s largest lead was 20 points late in the game.

Lakeshore was paced by Dylan Clem’s 14 points and 11 rebounds. J.J. Bushu added 12 points, with his two steals in the second quarter providing the spark for Lakeshore. The Lancers hit seven three-pointers with Ben Anderson (6 pts) scoring two of them. Dylan Sing (7 pts), Austin Kiser (5 pts), J.J. Bushu, Ben Brower (3 pts), and Dylan Clem nailed the other five three-pointers.

Ten different Lancers, compared to eight for the Bears, scored at least one point in the game with six Lancers scoring 5 or more points. The Bears had just three players score 5 or more points.

Lakeshore and Bridgman clash once again, on Tuesday, February 5th, for the first time since their epic 2013 battle which featured Lakeshore throwing it back to the Baroda Bulldog days for one night only. Lakeshore and the Bees battle in Bridgman High School’s Beehive at 7pm.

Lakeshore’s next home game will be on Tuesday, February 12th against Indiana’s Class 3A #7 Mishawaka Marian.
