The Lakeshore Lancer girl’s basketball team traveled to South Haven tonight looking for their first victory of the season. The Lancers controlled most of the game, and Lakeshore closed out the Rams for the 40-31 victory.
Morgan Tillman led Lakeshore (1-1) scorers with 12 points. Olivia Trivedi (8 points) and Riley Pifer (6) rounded out the top three in scoring. In total, six different Lancers scored in the contest. Jayden Schmaltz and Hollee Hercik each scored five points.
“We had good defensive pressure tonight. Morgan Tillman’s leadership and aggressive offensive play kept us steady most of the game,” stated Lancer coach Michael Clark.
After Halftime, the Rams changed their game plan to try to get back into it after trailing 21-11 at the break. It worked for the 26-25 lead after three quarters. But, the Lancers closed out the game strong erupting for 15 points, while holding the Rams to five, for the final score.
“[South Haven] went zone in the 3rd quarter and we lost our composure a little, but got it back together at the start of the fourth. Riley really stepped up in the final quarter. Olivia Trivedi did a great job for us off the bench as well,” Clark said.
The Lancers travel to the Bear Den on Friday the 13th for SMAC West Doubleheader Action against their arch-rival, the St. Joe Bears. The girl’s game will begin around 5:30 P.M. with the boy’s game following.
