The Lakeshore Lancers handed the Mattawan Wildcats their third loss of the season, first since January 23rd, in a 49-43 victory Tuesday night inside Lancer Gym. Mattawan entered the game 10-2 on the season after defeating Gull Lake last night.
In the last two games, Lakeshore has faced teams that are a combined 22-3. After a fast start against St. Joe in the first quarter last Friday, the Bears used a zone defense to slow down the Lancers in the second quarter. Tonight, the Lancers clamped down on the Wildcats, which led 13-7 after one, by holding Mattawan to six points while scoring 17 in the second quarter. The Lakeshore bench provided a huge boost, scoring 24 points compared to four for the Wildcats.
Austin Kiser led the Lancer scorers with 16 points, including a perfect two for two from behind the arc. JJ Bushu added eight points while Dylan Sing and Micah Seats each added five points. Jon Bowman led the Lancers on the boards with eight rebounds.
The Lancers travel to The Igloo at Portage Northern this Friday night for SMAC West action. Lancer boys tip-off around 7 p.m.
