The Niles Vikings may have shipped off to the BCS Conference for one year, but that didn’t stop them from seeing former SMAC rival Lakeshore three times this season. Unfortunately for the Vikings, the third time had the same result as the first two meetings as Niles falls 70-50 to the Lancers on their home court in the District Semi-Final.
The Lakeshore Lancers, as the #1 seed, received the first round bye and played their first game in over a week following the cancellation of St. Joe and Portage Northern contests. The Lancers raced out to a 17-9 lead and never looked back in thumping the Vikings behind hot shooting from Grant Gondrezick II. He led all scorers with 25 points including an 8-8 performance from the free throw line and netting three 3-pointers. TJ Mitchell had 13 points, JJ Bushu added 10 points, and Gavin Foster finished with nine points.
George Pullen paced Niles with 15 points. The Vikings finished with three wins this season as a member of the BCS Conference. Niles will make its move to the Wolverine Conference next school year.
In the other semi-final, Buchanan took control late against Edwardsburg to set-up the showdown with Lakeshore this Saturday afternoon for the district championship. Game time is set for 3PM at Niles High School. Follow @LHSLancerSports for updates and other game information, and listen live on the Lakeshore Lancers Network.
