The Benton Harbor Tigers are considered one of the best teams in the state, and Lakeshore’s huge 4th quarter nearly completed a huge comeback. As time expired though, it was the Tigers who held on for a 61-56 victory on their home court.
Lakeshore took an early 7-6 lead over the Tigers with a little over three minutes to play in the first quarter, but the Tigers added ten straight points for a 16-7 lead. Another big second quarter made the halftime score 30-16, and after three quarters the Tigers owned a 44-31 lead.
In the 4th Quarter, the Lancers scored 25 points, but it was not enough as the Tigers kept the distance they needed to advance to the regional championship against Hopkins.
Leading the Lancers were Gavin Foster with 16 points, Grant Gondrezick II 12 points, and JJ Bushu and TJ Mitchell each finished with ten points. The Tigers had 28 points from Kentrell Pullian.
The Lancers finish with three losses in the 2021 sprint with two to Kalamazoo Central and now Benton Harbor. Along the way, the Lancers controlled the SMAC West and continued the strong tradition that has become known for Lakeshore basketball. Lakeshore finished with 12 victories, which included the win over Battle Creek Lakeview that gave Coach Schroeder his 300th career victory, one of few to reach the mark in Berrien County history.
